Overview

Joseph A. Pickels

Joseph is a defense attorney focused on Oregon and Washington civil litigation. His current practice consists of defending employers, third-parties, and insureds in liability and coverage disputes, workers’ compensation matters, WISHA and OSHA compliance, and labor issues.  He also represents companies in business and administrative law disputes.

Workers’ compensation law is intended to benefit not only injured workers, but also employers by proving increased certainty around the benefits to be provided. My role as a workers’ compensation defense attorney is to advise clients as to the types of matters that they will, and will not, be liable, for a given case, and to help them in portfolio minimization efforts to help better control costs.

Joseph has briefed multiple issues before both the Oregon and Washington Supreme Court and Court of Appeals ranging from constitutional interpretation, procedural defects, and workers’ compensation orders. He also appears frequently before administrative and superior courts litigating complex motions and cases.

Joseph is originally from Yuma, Arizona. He holds a B.S. in Finance and Economics from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and a J.D. from Willamette University College of Law. While in law school, Joseph produced two thesis papers: the first analyzing federal Labor Law and the National Labor Relations Act, and the second focusing on water policy and Colorado River water allocation.  Recently married to Elizabeth, a Portland-area doctor, in his free time Joseph can be found on the golf course or cheering for his beloved Arizona Cardinals.
