Overview

R. Stephen Doughty

With over four decades of experience in medical malpractice, employment, and insurance and workers’ compensation defense, Attorney R. Stephen Doughty tenaciously represents Oregon and Washington employers and insurance companies in challenging workers’ compensation claims. Steve is a zealous advocate who uses his vast knowledge to strategically guide businesses and insurers through work-injury matters, helping to minimize risk, timely transition injured workers back to employment, and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our economy is largely fostered by private and public employers, making it essential to support their needs during difficult and trying times. When defending an employer, my primary objectives are to minimize risk for employers while ensuring employees receive the care and treatment they rightfully deserve, enabling them to return to work as quickly as possible.

Before joining the workers’ compensation defense team at Wallace, Mann, Capener, Bishop & Debney, Steve served as the Assistant and Deputy Attorney General for the State of Tennessee and as a top litigation practitioner with Hubbard, Berry, Doughty, Harris & Barrick and in private practice, where he focused on medical malpractice, employment discrimination, and civil rights cases.

After moving from Tennessee to Oregon and with a strong desire to help employers efficiently and cost-effectively resolve work injury matters, Steve transitioned from semi-retirement into active practice, where he uses his negotiation skills to support the best interests of companies, organizations, and insurers across the state.

When not practicing law, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife, their five grown children, and his grandchildren. He is also an avid runner who has conquered countless half and full marathons.
